Redwork Quilt

This is another quilt that has been a long time in the making !  The base squares are made from unbleached Calico and have first been machine embroidered in red thread with typical redwork designs.

These were then pieced following which the square motive was again machine embroidered (found it difficult to position).

I then quilted using a fusible cotton batting.  I quilted in double squares with more red thread.

The binding was given to me by a dear friend and matched the colourway very well.  This is the first quilt that I have hand bound but I managed quite well.  I machine washed the quilt and have left it creased as I like the effect.

Not perfect but glad it is finished.

  2. Beautiful red work quilt. Your binding is beautiful. Looks like you did a great job. I remember the first time I put the binding on. I was scared I'd mess up the quilt. I used to quilt but took up paper crafting as I couldn't sew anymore because of a rotator cuff problem. I know this quilt will bring you much pleasure.

  3. Wow - good for you! My mother-in-law is a quilter, but I don't work well with needles! I know how much work goes in to them, and appreciate the satisfaction once they are complete.

  10. Wow, this is beautiful. I love the look of redwork and the binding is really great. I love quilts and they are sure warm. It is a shame quilting bees went out and people don't get together anymore to do quilting. It is a nice thing to do and produces wonderful works of art.

  11. Wonderful Redwork- and hard to tell by looking that it was done on a machine and not by hand : ) I just love the seam binding you added.
