Krazy Quilt

A very belated Happy New Year to you all, hoping things are going well so far.  I was away abroad over Christmas and the New Year so didn't get chance to make any posts on the blog.  Very busy also in a great new job which has taken more of my time.  Settling in now so have a bit more time to do craft and to post.

This machine sewn quilt was actually finished before Christmas and uses 15  Krazy Quilt Blocks made using a variety of striped cotton fabrics in black, navy blue, red, green, turquoise and pink all with a contrasting white stripe..  The blocks had been sitting around waiting to be used for ages actually.

Anyway, I decided to buy some black plain cotton material to make the sashing which I think sets off the rather mesmeric blocks.

I used a warm and natural batting and the quilt back was made from a bold black and white check cotton print which was also used for the binding which I did by hand.

I square quilted half way through the sashing and blocks with black 40's cotton thread.

I can't help thinking of Alice in Wonderland when I see this small quilt.

Redwork Quilt

This is another quilt that has been a long time in the making !  The base squares are made from unbleached Calico and have first been machine embroidered in red thread with typical redwork designs.

These were then pieced following which the square motive was again machine embroidered (found it difficult to position).

I then quilted using a fusible cotton batting.  I quilted in double squares with more red thread.

The binding was given to me by a dear friend and matched the colourway very well.  This is the first quilt that I have hand bound but I managed quite well.  I machine washed the quilt and have left it creased as I like the effect.

Not perfect but glad it is finished.

Baby Quilt

I have just made this mini quilt for a friend who is expecting a little baby girl.  Love the colours, it's 100% cotton and will come in useful I am sure.  It was all done on my trusty Janome sewing machine.

A Quilted Table Runner

Decided to do a table runner this time and it measures 97 x 39 cms.

This time I decided to try a charm pack which is a collection of matching colours of pre-cut squares of 5 inch.  The fabric is by Moda.

Lots of cutting with a rotary cutter and sewing the squares together.

This time I used a fusible batting and the quilt back was made from material from a deconstructed 100% cotton duvet cover.

So onwards and upwards !

Square Sampler Quilt

Told you I was doing more quilting !  Here is a nine square sampler quilt I have made and it measures 70 cm square.  All the materials were bought in John Lewis at half price and I used a tube method which was sewn together and then cut to form squares which in turn were assembled to give this double egg-timer effect.

As previously reported I am a lot more accurate even though it's still not perfect.  What the heck ...... I am enjoying the journey anyway.

The quilt back was made with a green material and it was quilted with warm & natural all cotton batting.  The whole thing was done on my Janome machine.
